New RACGP Survey Gives Early-Career GPs a Chance to Influence Future Support

New RACGP Survey Gives Early-Career GPs a Chance to Influence Future Support

Doctors who have recently achieved Fellowship are being invited to share their experiences through a new national survey from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). The feedback will be used to help improve the support and services available to GPs as they begin the next stage of their careers.

The RACGP's New Fellows Survey is focused on understanding the transition from GP training to independent practice. It aims to identify what is working well, where extra support is needed, and how the college can better meet the needs of early-career GPs.

Acting Chair of the RACGP's GPs in Training (GPiT) faculty, Dr Madeleine Wilkie, said becoming a Fellow is a major career milestone, but it also brings new responsibilities and professional challenges.

She said the survey will provide valuable insights into the experiences of New Fellows and help the RACGP strengthen the support it offers during this important stage of a GP's career.

Dr Wilkie also noted that responses will help inform the RACGP's advocacy work, ensuring the views of early-career GPs are reflected in future funding discussions and policy decisions.

The survey is anonymous, takes around 15 minutes to complete, and will remain open until 20 July 2026.

New Fellows are also encouraged to become involved with the GPiT faculty, which supports medical students, prevocational doctors, GP registrars and Fellows for up to five years after completing Fellowship through leadership opportunities, education, networking and advocacy.

Eligible participants should check their email for the invitation sent on 29 June. Anyone who has not received their survey link can contact the GPiT team for assistance.
