New Expert Group to Help Improve NDIS Access Decisions
09 Jul 2026
The group will help support the 2026–27 Budget plan to improve pathways into the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This includes developing standardised, evidence-based assessments to better measure a person’s functional capacity when deciding whether they can access the NDIS.
TAG includes experts from across Australia, including people with disability, First Nations representatives and people from diverse backgrounds.
Its role is to help design a fair and consistent assessment framework for determining whether someone has a substantially reduced functional capacity for NDIS access. The group will advise on suitable assessment methods, tools and thresholds so that decisions are equitable, consistent and in line with the original purpose of the Scheme.
The Government says the group’s advice will also be informed by consultation with the disability community and the broader sector.
