New Bulk Billing Clinics Planned for Hunter and Central Coast Under Medicare Expansion
01 Jun 2026
The initiative is part of the 2026–27 Budget and aims to improve access to bulk billing services in areas identified as having lower rates of bulk billed care.
It forms part of a broader Medicare strengthening package, which includes earlier funding measures such as expanded bulk billing incentives and the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program introduced in the 2025–26 Budget.
Previous investments also included funding to establish fully bulk billed clinics in the ACT to improve access to primary care.
The Hunter New England and Central Coast Primary Health Network will oversee a competitive grant process to select providers, using local knowledge to guide clinic placement and service delivery.
The Government says the expansion is intended to improve access to affordable general practice services in high-need communities.
