New Bulk Billing Calculator and Aged Care Pricing Changes Announced

The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has also announced updated consumer protections for people receiving Support at Home services, along with a temporary pause on planned price caps.

This pause is intended to give service providers more time to adjust to new funding and pricing rules.

Under the new changes, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission will be able to order refunds if providers overcharge and take action against those who do not issue monthly statements as required.

The Commission will also publish regular reports on investigations and enforcement actions. In addition, it will release a quarterly national summary of Support at Home prices so older people can compare costs more easily.

Further changes include closer monitoring of personal care prices and guidance encouraging providers to limit price rises to no more than twice a year.

A working group will also be set up with organisations such as the Older Persons Advocacy Network and Council on the Ageing Australia to improve pricing rules, consultation processes, and support for older Australians managing their care packages.

Aged care providers must continue to set fair prices, publish them on My Aged Care, and keep clear records of what is included in their charges.

The government says these steps are aimed at improving transparency, protecting consumers, and helping older Australians better understand and compare aged care prices.
