More Urgent Care Clinics Coming as New Awareness Campaign Begins
13 Apr 2026
Since 2023, more than 134 clinics have opened across the country. These clinics give free (bulk-billed) care for health problems that need attention quickly but are not life-threatening. They also help take pressure off busy hospital emergency departments.
The government plans to expand the program so that, once complete, 4 out of 5 Australians will live within a 20-minute drive of a clinic. So far, these services have already helped over 2.7 million people since the first clinic opened in June 2023.
Phase 3 of the campaign will support the rollout of 50 more clinics during 2025–26. It will also help people learn where their nearest clinic is and when it is open.
These clinics are open every day and do not need appointments or referrals. They treat issues like small fractures, sprains, cuts, burns, infections, and other urgent but non-life-threatening conditions.
The campaign will be shared across TV, social media, online platforms, and outdoor ads, with content designed to reach First Nations and multicultural communities.
