Presolol 100 Shortage
Presolol 100 mg (labetalol hydrochloride) tablets are in short supply until 3 October due to manufacturing issues. The 200 mg tablets are available as an alternative.

To help patients, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has introduced a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI), allowing pharmacists to substitute Presolol 100 mg with half a 200 mg tablet without a new prescription. More information is available on the TGA website.

Asthma Guidelines Update
For National Asthma Week, the National Asthma Council (NAC) will release updated asthma management guidelines for primary care on Tuesday 16 September.

GPs can attend a webinar at 7:00 pm (AEST) on the same day to learn about key changes to the Australian Asthma Handbook and gain expert insights.

GP25 Conference and Awards
The RACGP GP25 annual conference will be held in Brisbane on 14–16 November, on Turrbal and Jagera Country.

The conference gala dinner on Saturday 15 November (7:00–11:00 pm) will celebrate the 2025 RACGP award winners. Tickets cost $200, including a three-course meal and entertainment, and can be added to existing registrations by contacting the RACGP Conference team.

Preparing Practices for Extreme Weather
A webinar on Thursday 11 September, 7:30–8:30 pm (AEST) will help GPs prepare for disasters caused by extreme weather like bushfires, heatwaves, storms, and floods. The session will cover health impacts and disaster planning, guided by experienced GPs. 1 CPD hour is available.

Mental Health Training for GPs
The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) sets standards for GP mental health training and accredits related activities.

Mental Health Skills Training (MHST) helps GPs assess, plan, and treat common mental health issues. It can be completed via:

  • Primary pathway: 6+ hours online or in-person

  • Modular pathway: 1 Core Module (3+ hours) + 1 Clinical Enhancement Module (4+ hours)

Completing MHST may allow GPs to claim higher MBS rebates depending on registration.
