MedLuma: New AI Tool Supports GPs at the Point of Care

31 Mar 2026

Designed by Medcast, MedLuma aims to assist doctors rather than replace them, helping reduce the mental load of staying on top of constantly changing medical information.

MedLuma brings together Australian clinical guidelines, evidence, and relevant international research in a single platform. This allows GPs to find accurate information quickly without searching multiple sources. Doctors can also earn CPD points while using the tool during consultations.

Dr Stephen Barnett, founder of Medcast and practising GP, said, “MedLuma is medical-grade AI that supports doctors at the point of care. It makes your workday smoother and helps manage the information doctors need to provide the best care.”

About 40% of Australian GPs already use AI scribes in their daily practice, and tools like MedLuma represent the next step in safely integrating AI into healthcare. RACGP experts highlight that AI must be used carefully, fit into existing workflows, and that final clinical decisions always remain with the doctor.

Dr Sean Stevens, RACGP Chair for Digital Health and Innovation, said, “GPs need to keep up with a huge volume of medical knowledge. AI that presents reliable, usable information can be incredibly helpful—but it has to work within our existing systems and make things easier, not harder.”

The launch comes as AI tools for the general public, such as ChatGPT Health, continue to grow. MedLuma is aimed specifically at clinicians, providing fast, trustworthy, Australian-specific medical information to improve patient care and support doctors in their decision-making.
