Lilly introduces home delivery option for Mounjaro

Patients prescribed Mounjaro (tirzepatide) can now use LillyDirect to arrange delivery of their medicine to their home. The platform is operated with digital health company Evermed and connects patients with licensed pharmacies that handle dispensing and delivery.
Patients upload their e-script to the platform, confirm their prescription and delivery details, and place their order. A licensed pharmacy then dispenses the medicine and arranges delivery.
LillyDirect is not a pharmacy and does not prescribe or dispense medicines. Lilly says the platform is designed to provide competitive pricing, home delivery and a simpler way to manage repeat prescriptions.
The initial service focuses on selected medicines for obesity, type 2 diabetes and moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea associated with obesity. Lilly says it will continue to assess which other medicines could be made available through the platform.
The launch has raised concerns from the RACGP about how the new model could affect medication oversight and continuity of care.
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright said Mounjaro and other GLP-1 medicines require careful prescribing and monitoring because they can have significant side effects.
He also raised concerns that different dispensing services may not have a complete view of a patient's medicines, which could make it harder to identify potential medication-related risks.
Dr Wright said greater visibility of prescribing and dispensing would be important as the use of these medicines increases.
Lilly Australia General Manager Manny Simons said LillyDirect was designed to improve access and affordability for medicines that are not funded through the PBS.
The company said prescribing decisions and clinical responsibility remain with the patient's healthcare professional.
Mounjaro is currently available in Australia for adults with type 2 diabetes and/or chronic weight management, subject to its approved indications.
The launch follows previous discussions about whether Mounjaro should be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
