It’s MedsAware: Deprescribing Action Week — are you MedsAware?
13 Mar 2025
The awareness campaign raises awareness around polypharmacy and deprescribing and is targeted at patients, as well as doctors.
This week is the annual MedsAware: Deprescribing Action Week held by Advanced Pharmacy Australia, and supported by the AMA.
MedsAware: Deprescribing Action Week raises awareness around polypharmacy and deprescribing. In 2025, MedsAware turns its attention towards sustainability highlighting the benefits of deprescribing for patients and the planet. Pharmaceuticals account for nearly 20 per cent of all healthcare-related greenhouse emissions in Australia.
The MedsAware campaign site includes resources for doctors and for patients to help facilitate discussions about medicines and deprescribing.
The AMA’s Position Statement on doctors' role in stewardship of healthcare resources shows the benefits of ensuring healthcare resources, including medicines, are used judiciously with better outcomes for patient safety and costs, and the environment.
