Government Seeks Public Feedback on Major NDIS Reforms

04 Jun 2026

The proposed changes follow the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 and funding measures announced in the 2026–27 Federal Budget.

Consultation will focus on several key areas, including support models for participants requiring 24-hour Supported Independent Living (SIL), pricing arrangements for unregistered providers, the development of the Inclusive Communities Fund, and reforms to social participation and capacity-building supports.

The Government will also seek feedback on updated planning rules and a proposed new process for determining eligibility for NDIS access.

Public consultation is scheduled to take place between July and October 2026. Individuals and organisations will be able to provide feedback through written submissions, email responses, phone consultations, or video submissions, including Auslan recordings.

Easy Read and Auslan resources will be made available to support accessible participation.

The Government will also engage directly with disability organisations, providers, health professionals, support workers, advisory groups, and other sector representatives throughout the consultation process.

In addition, a Technical Advisory Group will be established to provide independent advice on proposed access reforms. The group will help develop a consistent assessment framework for determining eligibility based on functional capacity and will support future changes to NDIS access criteria.

The Government says the consultation process will help ensure future reforms are informed by the experiences and needs of people with disability, their families, and the wider sector.
