Government Review Finds Governance and Funding Challenges in cohealth GP Services
03 Jun 2026
The review was jointly commissioned in November 2025 to assess cohealth’s service model, governance and financial sustainability, and to explore ways to maintain access to care for local communities.
It examined how services are delivered, how the organisation is governed, and whether current funding arrangements support long-term viability.
The final report, delivered in March 2026, found that cohealth plays an important role in supporting communities with complex health and social needs.
However, it also identified significant challenges relating to governance, service delivery and financial sustainability.
To help maintain access to care, the Australian Government has committed up to $1.5 million in funding to support the continuation of general practice services at the Collingwood, Fitzroy and Kensington sites while operational improvements are made.
Both governments say they are now working together on a coordinated response focused on keeping services running, strengthening governance, and implementing recommended reforms.
The published version of the report excludes some material due to legal secrecy provisions, privacy requirements and commercially sensitive financial information.
