Government Reports Early Progress on Support for Unpaid Carers

The 10-year strategy was developed with input from carers and focuses on improving the support they receive while recognising the important role they play in Australia's health and care system.
According to the report, carers now have access to 10,000 extra free telephone counselling sessions each year through the Carer Gateway, providing more opportunities to access emotional and mental health support.
The report also outlines progress in expanding respite and peer support services, while introducing free online learning designed to help carers develop practical skills. These training resources have been selected to ensure they are culturally safe and accessible to a wide range of carers.
The government says it will continue publishing annual updates to track the delivery of the National Carer Strategy and measure progress against its action plan over the next decade.
