Final Week to Nominate for RACGP President Election

13 Jul 2026

Nominations are open to current RACGP Fellows and will close at 4:00 pm (AEST) on 20 July. The list of candidates will be announced on 24 July.

The RACGP president is an elected position that represents both the college and its members while serving as a director on the RACGP Board.

The role includes representing the RACGP in discussions with governments, acting as the college's main spokesperson, participating in national and international engagements, and advocating for general practice, education, training, and professional standards.

RACGP President Dr Michael Wright encouraged eligible members from diverse backgrounds to consider nominating.

He said the position offers an important opportunity to represent GPs, advocate for patients, and help guide the future direction of the college during a significant period for Australian healthcare.

Dr Wright also said the RACGP is strongest when members take an active role in its leadership, adding that standing for election is one of the best ways to help shape the future of general practice and ensure the voices of GPs across Australia are represented.

The successful candidate will be announced as president-elect on 24 August and will officially begin the role at the RACGP Annual General Meeting on 19 November.

Eligible members can find more information and submit their nominations through the RACGP website.
