Emergency Department access changes at Royal Hobart Hospital

Emergency Department access changes at Royal Hobart Hospital

15 Sep 2026

The new entrance, located near the intersection with Liverpool Street, became the designated public access point from 8 am on Tuesday 15 September 2026.

The change is part of works affecting the area between Collins and Liverpool Streets. A specific zone for ambulances and a separate area for public drop-offs will operate outside the new Emergency Department entrance.

What is changing?

With access moved to Argyle Street, construction can progress on the existing Emergency Department and the Liverpool Street forecourt.

Patients and visitors will see construction areas, signs and traffic controls around the hospital. These measures will help direct people through the site safely while the redevelopment continues.

The hospital itself will continue to operate during the construction period.

There will be no change to vehicle access to Hobart Private Hospital.

Temporary arrangement to continue

The Argyle Street entrance is expected to remain in operation until 2028, while the work around Liverpool Street is completed.
