Dr Ramya Raman elected as next RACGP President

Dr Raman said she was honoured by the support from RACGP members and recognised the responsibility that comes with leading the college.
She said speaking with GPs across Australia during the election showed a strong desire for greater connection with the college and highlighted growing member engagement.
As President, Dr Raman plans to focus on improving funding and policy support for specialist general practice.
Her priorities include better Medicare rebate indexation, appropriate payment for longer and more complex consultations, and support for an independent pricing authority.
She also identified workforce support as a key focus, including support for international medical graduates, practice owners, rural and remote GPs and experienced GPs.
Dr Raman has held several leadership roles within the RACGP, including RACGP WA Faculty Chair since 2021. She is also a practice principal and a General Practice Discipline Head at the University of Notre Dame’s School of Medicine.
In the presidential election, Dr Raman received 5386 votes. Dr Anita Muñoz received 3611 votes, while Dr Gavin Colthart received 869. A total of 9866 eligible votes were cast.
Dr Wright congratulated Dr Raman, saying he was confident she would provide strong leadership for the RACGP and continue to represent the needs of GPs and patients.
Dr Raman will formally begin her two-year term as RACGP President on 19 November 2026.
