Consultation opens on future NDIS support coordination service

The changes are part of broader reforms aimed at securing the future of the NDIS and improving how the scheme works, while ensuring people with disability continue to receive the support they need.
The Government is working with people with disability, families, carers, providers and workers to understand how the reforms may affect them.
New support coordination and connection service
A new commissioned NDIS support coordination and connection service is planned to begin from 1 July 2028.
The new service will replace the current way NDIS participants receive support coordination. It aims to improve service quality and consistency and better respond to the needs of participants.
Support coordinators help participants understand, access and coordinate their supports. The proposed changes also aim to improve consistency, quality, safeguarding and understanding of the roles of different providers.
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and the National Disability Insurance Agency have developed early ideas about how the new service could operate. Feedback from the consultation will help inform advice to the Government before the final design is decided.
Feedback is being sought on:
- what the support coordination and connection service should provide
- how providers should be commissioned and how the market should operate
- ways to improve quality and safeguarding
- how demand for the service could be managed
- how the new service could be introduced and how people could transition to it.
People with disability, families, carers and kin, advocates, providers and the broader disability community are encouraged to share their views.
Consultation closes at 11.59 pm AEST on 2 October 2026.
