Complaints About AHPRA Fall, but Complex Investigations Increase
06 Nov 2026
According to the NHPO's 2025–26 annual report, complaints about AHPRA fell from 980 to 873.
Most complaints concerned how AHPRA handled notifications, with 492 complaints recorded. A further 248 were related to the registration process.
This follows a record number of complaints in the previous financial year, when concerns about registration delays, changes to AHPRA's operating system and higher registration fees contributed to the increase.
The NHPO reported fewer complaints about these issues in 2025–26, although overall complaint patterns remained largely unchanged.
During the year, the Ombudsman resolved 862 complaints. These included 482 related to notifications and 258 concerning registration.
Despite the overall decline in complaints, the number of formal investigations increased from 15 to 36.
These investigations are generally reserved for serious, sensitive or complex matters, as well as issues that may affect a wider group of people.
Of the 36 investigations, 10 involved notifications, 11 concerned registration, 14 related to accreditation and one involved a statutory offence complaint.
The NHPO said the rise in complex complaints and dissatisfaction among complainants appeared to be contributing to the increase in investigations.
The annual report also recorded 30 complaints about training programs run by professional colleges.
