Boosting GPs’ Confidence in Treating Children’s Mental Health
09 Mar 2026
Brad Morgan from Emerging Minds says GPs can make a big difference through early support, but they often lack the guidance and “wraparound” support other health professionals receive. This can be stressful, particularly in rural areas where GPs may feel they are the only help available.
To help, Emerging Minds has partnered with RACGP to offer training, webinars, podcasts, and resources for families. While useful, Mr Morgan says it’s the ongoing support structures that really boost GP confidence.
RACGP’s Tim Jones agrees. He says GPs already have the knowledge—they just need the confidence to apply it. Continuity of care, where GPs follow families over time, is a major advantage.
The next webinar, “A ‘whole child’ approach for families waiting on an ADHD assessment”, is on 25 March at 7pm via the RACGP website.
