Be Disaster Ready: Emergency Management and Resilience Meetings

22 Aug 2024

The information sessions will provide attendees with valuable knowledge including how
the Wingecarribee Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) is working
collaboratively with key agencies to safeguard our community.
The meetings will be held on:
• Wednesday 4 September at Moss Vale Civic Centre, Emergency Operations
Centre (EOC) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.
• Wednesday 11 September 2024 at Canyonleigh Community Hall from 5:30pm
to 6:30pm.
Representatives from the State Emergency Service (SES), NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS),
Local Land Services, Council, NSW Reconstruction Authority, and Australian Red Cross
will be in attendance to share their expertise and answer questions.
"Collaboration is key to building a resilient community," emphasised Wingecarribee Shire
Council General Manager Lisa Miscamble.
“Be informed and be prepared. Understanding our local emergency management plans is
crucial for protecting yourself, your family and our community,” she said.
Wingecarribee Shire Council, in partnership with South Western Sydney Primary Health
Network (PHN), will launch the ‘Your Health During a Natural Disaster’ booklet as part of
the sessions. The booklet includes practical guidance, resources and contacts to prepare
and support you and your family’s health during a disaster.
South Western Sydney PHN Chief Executive Officer, Dr Keith McDonald PhD, said
SWSPHN was pleased to collaborate with Council on the Your Health booklet, and
encouraged locals to plan for their healthcare needs, as part of their disaster planning
preparations.
“We know preparation is the key to safety and survival during disasters such as flood or
fire,” he said.
“Tips on putting together an emergency kit, how to access medical services during a
disaster and getting ready emotionally for a disaster are all included in the booklet.
“Supporting the physical and emotional safety of our community is the key motivator
behind the development of this booklet. We hope it will be a useful tool as we head into
the next bushfire season.”
The Emergency Management and Resilience Meetings are funded by the Australian
Government in partnership with Wingecarribee Shire Council.
