Australia prepares for nationwide AusAlert emergency notification test
14 Jul 2026
AusAlert will deliver urgent warnings to compatible mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches during major emergencies, including bushfires, floods, cyclones, severe storms, public health events and security threats.
The upcoming test is intended to familiarise Australians with the alert and confirm that the system is operating correctly.
When the test takes place, supported devices will vibrate, sound a loud alert tone for around 10 seconds, and display a notification that clearly identifies the message as a test. There is no need to respond if you receive the alert.
The test will be conducted at the following local times:
- 2:00 pm AEST – ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria
- 1:30 pm ACST – South Australia, Northern Territory and Broken Hill
- 12:00 pm AWST – Western Australia
To help people prepare, the Australian Government has developed information for older Australians, people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and multicultural communities, ensuring more Australians understand how the new warning system will work before it goes live.
