Ahpra seeks feedback on health practitioner codes

17 Sep 2026

The codes set out expectations for safe, ethical and professional behaviour across registered health professions.

The review will begin with an early scoping survey. Feedback from practitioners, consumers and other stakeholders will help identify areas that may need to be considered as the codes are reviewed.

The codes also help patients and consumers understand the standards of behaviour they can expect from their healthcare professionals. For practitioners, they provide guidance on professional conduct and support consistent regulatory decision-making when concerns are raised.

Regular reviews help ensure the codes continue to support ethical practice, quality care and public safety.

The review will consider the Shared Code of conduct, which is used by most National Boards, along with profession-specific codes for medical practitioners and nurses and midwives.
