Ahpra Releases Guidance on Outcome-Based Accreditation
16 Oct 2026
The Accreditation Committee has published new principles to guide accreditation authorities in applying outcome-based approaches across Australia’s National Registration and Accreditation Scheme.
The independently chaired committee developed the guidance to explain how these approaches are currently used, alongside practical examples of good practice.
Committee Chair Professor Andrew Wilson AO said the principles support flexible and innovative approaches to health practitioner education, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and public safety.
He also noted that outcome-based accreditation can help education providers deliver training in rural, regional, remote and underserved areas, supporting efforts to address healthcare workforce shortages.
The committee thanked stakeholders who contributed to the consultation process during the development of the principles.
