Aboriginal Health Workforce Training Series Supports General Practices

The webinar series was developed by the National Association for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners (NAATSIHWP) with support from RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health.
The training builds on a national guide released last year to help clinics include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners in their care teams and improve culturally safe healthcare.
The three-part webinar series is designed for GPs, practice managers and primary care teams. It focuses on practical ways to strengthen teamwork, workforce support and culturally safe care in general practice settings.
NAATSIHWP CEO Karl Briscoe said many practices wanted more guidance on how to apply the workforce guide in real clinical settings.
He said the sessions aim to help practices better understand the scope of practice, funding options, recruitment and long-term workforce support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners.
The webinars will also explore the impact of cultural and colonial load on workforce wellbeing and retention, while sharing strategies to build anti-racist and culturally safe workplaces.
Participants can earn 3 EA CPD points by completing the series.
Topics covered include:
- the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners in primary healthcare
- qualifications, regulation and scope of practice
- funding and employment pathways in general practice
- improving culturally safe and community-connected care
- practical strategies for workforce retention and collaboration
Mr Briscoe will also present at the 2026 RACGP Practice Owners Conference, where he will discuss how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners can strengthen models of care and improve health outcomes for First Nations communities.
The webinar sessions will run across May and June 2026.
