$6 million to support research into climate change and mental health

01 Oct 2026

The funding comes from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) through its Global Health initiative, which supports research into major health threats, including the health effects of climate change.

Three research projects will receive funding through the 2025 Mental Health and Climate Change grant opportunity.

The projects will focus on developing practical, community-led approaches to support the mental health and wellbeing of people affected by climate change.

Research will also examine the experiences and needs of First Nations communities.

The Australian Government said the funding will help improve understanding of the links between climate change and mental health and support the development of appropriate responses.
