$28.5 Million MRFF Grant to Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research

06 May 2026

The 2026 Empowering Community-Controlled Research grant will fund an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation or consortium to lead and support health and medical research projects.

The successful organisation will:

  • Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research projects and researchers, including through funding
  • Strengthen research skills and leadership within the community-controlled sector
  • Review the MRFF Indigenous Health Research Fund and help develop a Strategic Priorities Investment Plan to guide future funding decisions

The initiative supports recommendations from the Productivity Commission’s review of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap, with a focus on self-determination in government-funded programs.

Funding will be provided through the MRFF Indigenous Health Research Fund.

More information about the grant opportunity is available through GrantConnect and the MRFF calendar.
