$18.83 Million Funding Boost for Mental Health Research in Australia

26 May 2026

The funding is being delivered through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) under its Million Minds Mental Health Research Mission, which supports research that can be put into real-world practice.

The 2026 grant round will focus on projects that help improve understanding and treatment of mental health conditions, especially in children and young adults. It will also look at new and emerging patterns of substance use.

Another focus is supporting mid-career researchers to lead projects that use proven approaches to improve mental wellbeing and prevent mental illness.

The aim is to turn research findings into practical solutions that can be used in healthcare settings across Australia.

More information is available through GrantConnect and the MRFF funding calendar.
