RACGP Victoria Co-Deputy Chair Dr Aadhil Aziz congratulated the new Fellows, saying the achievement reflects 11 years of education, assessments and supervised clinical training.

He said the graduates have already made valuable contributions to communities across Victoria and are now ready to provide lifelong care for patients through every stage of life. He also highlighted general practice as a career that offers flexibility, variety and the opportunity to build trusted, long-term relationships with patients.

New Fellow Dr Raghu Nandan Devkota, who completed his training in Gippsland, described the journey as an especially meaningful experience. He said he studied throughout his partner’s pregnancy, making the achievement one that their growing family shares together.

Among the 167 new Fellows, four qualified as Rural Generalists. Two doctors also received academic awards, with Dr Jessica Del Gigante presented the Richard Gutch Medal and Dr Brooke Healey receiving the Rural Workforce Agency of Victoria Award.

RACGP President Dr Michael Wright congratulated the graduates, saying general practice gives doctors the opportunity to support patients throughout their lives by helping them stay healthy as well as treating illness.

The RACGP also reported strong growth in GP training across Australia. A total of 1,772 doctors began GP specialist training this year, representing a 19% increase compared with last year. Victoria recorded its largest intake on record, with 363 future GPs starting training in the state.
