Victoria Opens New Peer-Led Mental Health Residential Service in Geelong

10 Jul 2026

The Peer Healing Space is available to anyone aged 18 years and over who needs extra mental health support. Guests can choose the type of support that best suits their needs, with each day planned around their personal goals and preferences.

During their stay, guests can:

  • Receive one-on-one peer support.
  • Join optional group activities and community outings.
  • Include family or friends in their recovery, if they choose.
  • Continue with their existing support services or access additional support if needed.

The service is operated by Mind Australia and delivered by trained peer workers who have lived and living experience of mental health challenges. The team also works with Barwon Health to help connect guests with longer-term support or clinical services if they choose.

The Peer Healing Space was created in response to a recommendation from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, which called for a peer-led residential model designed by and for people with lived experience. The service provides another care option for people who may not need or benefit from a hospital stay.
