Time to Plunge In For Lungs
02 May 2024
Lung Foundation Australia CEO Mark Brooke said Plunge In For Lungs was the ultimate cold-water challenge.
“Whether it’s a commitment to swimming 1km per day, a certain number of hours or laps in May, or plunging your body into an ice bath, we’re encouraging all Aussies to set a personal goal, and make a positive impact on the lives of people impacted by lung disease,” Mr Brooke said.
“It’s staggering that in 2024 one in three people are impacted by lung disease or lung cancer in Australia.
“Lung Foundation Australia’s mission to keep Australia’s lungs healthy focuses on prevention, providing information and creating tools and resources, and this year our goal is to raise $100,000 through the Plunge In For Lungs challenge.”
Mr Brooke said all funds raised would be used specifically to:
- Help educate young people on the risks of e-cigarettes/vaping and drive policy change to protect future generations.
- Inform and protect workers from the dangers of silica dust.
- Support people living with long COVID.
- Help drive policy change to reduce air pollution.
This year, each fundraiser to raise $100 will also receive a free Lung Foundation Australia sports towel, perfect for taking to their next plunge and sharing on socials.
