Survey Reveals Strong Public Support for Health-Focused Tobacco and Vaping Policies
08 Oct 2026
A national YouGov survey commissioned by Lung Foundation Australia found that most Australians want public health prioritised over tobacco and vaping tax revenue.
Key findings include:
- 84% want public health prioritised over government revenue from tobacco and vaping products.
- 83% oppose tobacco and vaping companies influencing public policy.
- 82% oppose political donations from tobacco-related industries.
- 92% believe tobacco, vaping and nicotine products can cause serious health harms.
Lung Foundation Australia is calling for a ban on political donations and lobbying by tobacco and vaping industries, alongside greater transparency around industry interactions with governments.
The organisation says governments should strengthen measures to reduce nicotine addiction and protect public health.
