The consultation received feedback from psychologists, students, education providers, professional groups, consumers and other stakeholders. The feedback will help inform the Board’s advice and recommendations to the Australian Government.
The Higher Degree Redesign Project was commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. It is examining options for a shorter and more practical pathway to psychology registration while maintaining professional standards.
The project aims to address workforce challenges and growing demand for psychological services across Australia. It is also looking at ways to improve access to psychology training and reduce barriers to entering and progressing through the profession.
Consultation feedback showed strong support for reform, while also highlighting concerns about implementation, supervision capacity, training quality and the impact on education providers.
Ahpra CEO Justin Untersteiner said the project was focused on building a sustainable psychology workforce and improving access to psychological services.
Psychology Board of Australia Chair Rachel Phillips thanked stakeholders for taking part and said their feedback would help shape the Board’s advice to government.
The Board will now continue work on its recommendations for government consideration.
