PBS Update: Easier Access to Combination Blood Pressure Medicines
01 Apr 2026
These medicines, which combine two blood pressure treatments into one pill, can now be used as a first option for managing hypertension, in line with international guidelines.
The update also changes how these medicines are prescribed. Patients can now get 30-day prescriptions listed as “Unrestricted Benefit”, making them easier to access. For 60-day prescriptions, these are now listed as “Restricted Benefit” and are available for patients whose condition is stable.
These changes follow advice from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) at its December 2024 meeting.
