New funding arrangement for COVID-19 vaccination begins
01 Oct 2026
COVID-19 vaccines are now covered under the National Immunisation Program (NIP). This replaces the separate National COVID-19 Vaccination Program established during the pandemic.
People who can receive the vaccines for free include:
- adults aged 65 and above
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults aged 50 and above
- adults aged 18 and above with severe immunocompromise.
COVID-19 vaccination remains an important measure for lowering the chance of severe illness.
The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing provides information on who can receive the vaccine, current recommendations and vaccination services.
