Outside the clinic, she volunteers in disaster response and youth leadership, earning recognition as a finalist in the Queensland Volunteering Awards.

Leanne Evert, a Dental Therapist at Gold Coast Health, has been named one of three finalists in the 'New to Volunteering' category at the Queensland Volunteering Awards. The award recognises people who have made a strong contribution to their communities within their first three years of volunteering.

Leanne began volunteering with the Kokoda Youth Foundation in 2024, leading young people on a 96-kilometre Kokoda Track event. Inspired by the work of the State Emergency Service (SES), she later joined as an SES volunteer.

Since then, she has supported communities during emergency responses, including Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, and completed rooftop rescue training as part of her SES role.

Leanne says volunteering is for everyone, regardless of the role they choose.

She encourages people to give back in ways that suit them, whether it's helping during emergencies or simply reading to someone in the community.
