Cash Grants Open for Students Taking Mental Health Placements in Regional Victoria

11 Apr 2026

The Pathways to Practice Incentive Grants aim to encourage students in occupational therapy, social work, nursing and psychology to take up mental health placements outside major cities.

Eligible students can receive $575 per week, up to $7,500 total, while completing a placement at an approved health service.

The funding can help cover:

  • Travel to and from the placement location
  • Accommodation costs
  • Daily travel during shifts
  • Other moving or relocation expenses

Regional and rural health services can also apply for up to $30,000 to improve student placements. This may include programs that help students feel welcome and supported in the local community.

The goal is to reduce cost barriers and encourage more students to train and later work in rural mental health services.

The grants are managed by the Rural Workforce Agency Victoria. Applications are open until December 2026 or until all funding is used, with spots offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Students can apply through the RWAV website, while health services can contact RWAV directly for more details.
