Vale Robin Warren
01 Aug 2024
Professor Warren and gastroenterologist Professor Barry Marshall were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2005 for their groundbreaking research on peptic ulcer disease.
Their work on the bacterial basis for stomach ulcers revolutionised the treatment of gastro-duodenal ulcers.
As a result of their research, an antibiotic cure for peptic ulcers was developed that significantly reduced the prevalence of the disease.
They were joint winners of Western Australia’s Australian of the Year award in 2007, and received Australia’s highest civilian honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).
We extend our condolences to Professor Warren’s family, friends and colleagues.
Professor Warren was an honorary life member of AMA (WA).
