Take steps on your wellbeing journey – Mental Health Month 2025

26 Sep 2025

The month encourages understanding the importance of good mental health, promotes help-seeking behaviours, and fosters supportive environments where people feel empowered to ask for help.

This year’s theme, “Taking Steps on Your Wellbeing Journey,” highlights the small steps people can take to improve their mental health. Progress may not always be straightforward—there may be side steps or steps backward—and that’s okay.

5 Ways to Wellbeing
The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are simple strategies to strengthen psychological and emotional health, similar to how physical fitness supports the body. Small daily actions can help you live a happier, longer life and cope with stress. The five ways are:

  • Connect – build relationships with others

  • Be Active – stay physically active

  • Keep Learning – challenge yourself and learn new skills

  • Be Aware – practise mindfulness and self-reflection

  • Help Others – give back to your community

These strategies can be practised at home, work, or study.

Support services in South Western Sydney
In South Western Sydney, one in five people experience mental ill health within a 12-month period. The South Western Sydney Primary Health Network (SWSPHN) funds a range of services designed to meet local community needs:

  • Medicare Mental Health Centres – adults can access free, confidential mental health services from multidisciplinary care teams over extended hours. A new centre will open in Campbelltown this month, complementing the existing Liverpool centre.

  • headspace – provides free or low-cost support for young people aged 12 to 25 for mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and work or study. Centres operate in Bankstown, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Edmondson Park, and Oran Park.

  • NewAccess – a free, confidential six-session mental health coaching program to help manage life stresses such as work, study, relationships, health, or loneliness.
