SSSI information for HRT patches
21 Nov 2024
To help manage the shortage of estradiol-containing transdermal patches, the TGA has made a Serious Scarcity Substitution Instrument (SSSI). It starts on 19 November 2024 and allows a pharmacist to dispense an alternative brand or strength, if appropriate, without a new prescription from the prescriber.
For detailed information, visit About the shortage of transdermal HRT patches.
For more information about SSSIs see Substituting scarce medicines and Serious Scarcity Substitution Instruments (SSSIs).
The substitution has PBS subsidy arrangements, which can be found on the PBS website. Please note that some substitutable medicines can’t be PBS-subsidised under the SSSI.
