The AMA has been awarded royal patronage by King Charles III in recognition of its ongoing role and contribution to improving the health of all Australians.

Buckingham Palace informed AMA President Professor Steve Robson that the AMA has been given patronage by the new King and Queen as part of a review, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

“Regardless of where one stands on the republican issue in Australia, we can all be proud that our organisation is recognised for its long-standing role in striving for better health for all Australians,” Professor Robson said.

“The AMA, which was formed in 1962, has evolved over the past 62 years to meet the times and ensure its relevancy.

“It’s been said that you should know the past to understand the present, and this recognition reaffirms our past as the AMA works on its new vision to inform how we advocate to meet new health challenges in coming years.”
