Road safety conference follows AMA calls for road safety data transparency
14 Dec 2023
Australia’s transport ministers met last week, deciding a road safety conference needed to be held as soon as possible.
The meeting follows the AMA’s calls for the federal government to mandate a requirement for state and territory governments to start sharing road safety data to help stop Australia’s rising road toll.
The Guardian ran a story on the AMA’s advocacy on the issue, and followed up by reporting that the ministers would convene the road safety conference in 2024.
The Guardian reported that following the meeting the ministers “announced they would hold the conference to bring together road safety ministers and police ministers "to discuss emerging road safety trends and to investigate short-term actions which could be taken to stem the rising road”.
