Public Fertility Care celebrates 250th baby

18 Sep 2025

As the first free fertility care service in Australia, the program provides access to IVF and a range of other fertility treatments at no cost to eligible Victorians.

Since opening, more than 7,000 people have accessed the service, including over 1,000 from regional and rural areas.

Who the service supports

Public Fertility Care focuses on individuals and families who may face barriers to private treatment, including:

  • People on lower incomes

  • Regional and rural residents

  • LGBTIQA+ community members

  • Single people

  • Individuals needing fertility preservation for medical reasons

How it works

Led by the Royal Women’s Hospital and delivered in partnership with 10 health services across Victoria, the program connects patients with care through a GP referral and their nearest participating health service.

This milestone highlights the growing impact of Public Fertility Care in making parenthood possible for more Victorians.
