Public consultation: Guidelines on compounding medicine

Public consultation: Guidelines on compounding medicine

30 May 2023

The guidelines are for pharmacists when compounding medicines to meet the unique needs of a patient. Compounding is done when available medicines do not meet a patient’s needs, such as if they have an allergy to an ingredient in available medicines or if a medicine is needed in a different form (e.g. a liquid rather than tablets). The consultation pack includes a fact sheet for members of the public to further explain what compounded medicines are and why they may be needed.

The Board welcomes submissions on the revisions from all interested parties including members of the public, the profession and stakeholders.

How you can have your say

Consultation is open until 24 July 2023. The consultation pack is on the Board’s website under Current consultations.

You can provide feedback by close of business on 24 July 2023 by one of two ways:

  1. submitting your answers to the questions via an online survey, or
  2. using the response template and sending it as a Word document (not PDF) by email to PharmBAFeedback@ahpra.gov.au
