New $800 Subsidy to Support GPs in Mental Health Training

New $800 Subsidy to Support GPs in Mental Health Training

06 Nov 2025

The subsidy, offered by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC), aims to make it easier for GPs to upskill in mental health care and deliver evidence-based psychological support to patients.

Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) include approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy, psychoeducation, and relaxation techniques. GPs trained in FPS are better equipped to support patients experiencing mental health challenges, particularly in rural and remote areas where access to psychologists and psychiatrists can be limited.

Eligible GPs will receive the $800 once they complete the training and register as FPS providers with Services Australia. For more details or to apply, contact the GPMHSC Secretariat at mentalhealth@racgp.org.au.
