Meet Dr Mohsena Husainy: A GP Making a Difference in South Western Sydney
02 Sep 2025
Dr Mohsena Husainy is a busy GP at Campbelltown Mall Medical Centre. For her, every day brings new challenges and opportunities — and she finds joy in them all. She loves building long-term relationships with her patients, caring for them through all stages of life, and enjoying the flexibility that a career in general practice provides.
Her journey into general practice
Dr Husainy has been a GP for five years, all within the South Western Sydney region. She first decided to specialise in general practice while working in hospitals as a medical officer. What drew her most was the continuity of care — being able to look after patients over time, guide them through different stages of life, and manage their care from start to finish.
Another big reason was flexibility. General practice allows doctors to explore different clinical interests, maintain a healthy work-life balance, and enjoy a sustainable career. For Dr Husainy, this balance is essential in such a demanding profession.
What she loves most
For Dr Husainy, the most rewarding part of her job is the strong connection she builds with patients. Getting to know people, understanding their medical history in the context of their personal and family life, and being a trusted part of their journey brings her great satisfaction. She finds it deeply fulfilling to help patients manage chronic conditions, support them during difficult times, or simply provide reassurance.
She also appreciates the variety general practice offers. “Every day is different,” she says, “and that keeps the work interesting and meaningful.”
Her practice’s role in the community
Dr Husainy believes general practice plays a central role in building healthier communities. Her practice provides continuous, accessible, and patient-focused care. GPs are often the first point of contact for health concerns, which means they can guide patients through everything from preventative care to chronic disease management and mental health support.
She also highlights the importance of connecting patients to local support services and addressing broader social needs, which strengthens the community as a whole.
Life outside of work
Work-life balance is very important to Dr Husainy. Outside of her clinic, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, especially her children, which helps her relax and stay grounded. She also loves interior decorating, going to the gym, watching TV, and socialising with friends. These activities keep her refreshed and allow her to bring her best self to her patients.
Why she loves South Western Sydney
Dr Husainy values the region’s rich cultural diversity. South Western Sydney is home to people from many different backgrounds, which she says makes it vibrant and rewarding to work in. While some patients face challenges like language or financial barriers, she admires the resilience and warmth of the community.
Her advice to patients
When it comes to good health, Dr Husainy encourages her patients to take a balanced approach: eat well, stay active, get enough sleep, and keep up with regular health checks. But she also stresses the importance of mental wellbeing — making time for hobbies, rest, and meaningful connections.
For her, prevention, early care, and strong doctor-patient relationships are key. “Good health isn’t just about avoiding illness,” she says. “It’s about building habits that support a full and meaningful life.”
