Medical Research Future Fund boosts funding for childhood brain cancer research
05 Feb 2025
Brain tumours are the most common solid tumours among Australian children and are often fatal.
Three universities have been awarded funding through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) 2024 Paediatric Brain Cancer Research grant opportunity.
The grant opportunity included up to $14 million to create a national childhood brain cancer clinical trial consortium. It also included up to $6 million for early-stage clinical research to increase our understanding of childhood brain cancer and develop new treatments.
Funding is under the MRFF’s Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research initiative. The Emerging Priorities and Consumer-Driven Research initiative will give $653.6 million over 10 years between 2024–25 and 2033–2034.
