Invitation to Join: Genomics Australia Advisory Council

Applications are open for those wishing to become members of the Genomics Australia Advisory Council, invited by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

Genomics Australia
, established on 1 July 2025, provides national leadership and expertise to help integrate genomics into the Australian health system. Its goal is to make genomics healthcare person- and family-centred, culturally safe, efficient, ethical, and equitable. The organisation helps translate genomics research into clinical services, moving from research to real-world healthcare.

The work of Genomics Australia is guided by the Australian Health Genomics Commissioner, who advises the Government and engages with the community and sector.

To support this work, the Genomics Australia Advisory Council (GAAC) is being formed. The Council will provide independent, expert advice based on evidence, cultural safety, and community values.

We are looking for individuals with expertise in areas such as:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Genomics

  • Healthcare Advocacy

  • Lived Experience

  • Diagnostic and Clinical Practice

  • Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Health Genomics

  • Health Policy and Health Systems

  • Industry and Health Technology

  • Medical Research

Members are appointed for their individual expertise and do not represent any organisation.

Council details:

  • Meet up to 4 times per year (virtual meetings up to 2 hours; at least one in-person meeting annually up to 3 hours)

  • Members may be consulted on specific issues outside meetings

  • Members will be remunerated according to the Departmental Remuneration Framework for Non-Statutory External Departmental Committees
