Incident at Launceston General Hospital

Several theatre staff reported feeling nauseous and faint. Those affected were supported and received medical attention, with three staff assessed in the Emergency Department. No patients were directly affected, and all surgeries underway at the time were completed. One planned procedure that had not yet started was cancelled and will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
While the incident appears to have been contained to a single theatre, other theatres were temporarily closed as a precaution. All planned surgeries over the weekend will be reviewed, but emergency surgeries will continue.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation and efforts will continue throughout the weekend. Emergency services were called to the scene, and all necessary safety measures were implemented.
All other areas of LGH remain fully operational. The hospital has contingency plans in place for unplanned situations, ensuring patient and staff safety is maintained.
