GP Survives After Car Crashes Through Melbourne Clinic
17 Dec 2025
The incident happened around 9:30 am on 8 December at Essendon Health Medical Centre. The 36-year-old man on the footpath died at the scene, and a female patient inside suffered multiple fractures and was airlifted to hospital.
“I feel very lucky to be alive,” Dr Hamdan told newsGP. “The car came just centimetres from me. It’s a miracle no one else was hurt.”
The 63-year-old driver was taken to hospital and has since been interviewed by police. Investigations are ongoing.
The car crashed through the reception, consulting rooms, a server room, and staff toilets, leaving the clinic badly damaged. Dr Hamdan described the chaos: “Plaster and steel were falling everywhere. My patient was thrown across the room. I didn’t know it was a car until emergency crews arrived.”
Despite the shock, Dr Hamdan quickly resumed patient care via telehealth. He will temporarily move the clinic to Niddrie Medical Centre for repairs but plans to return to Essendon once the building is fixed.
“I’ve met many wonderful patients here,” he said. “I want to continue working with them and serving this community.”
