Gold Coast Health Tropical Cyclone Alfred Service Update
07 Mar 2025
Business Continuity Plans are in place to ensure patients in our hospitals continue to receive the care they need and anyone presenting to our Emergency Departments for care will be seen.
Planned care, including outpatient appointments and elective surgeries, on Thursday and Friday have been rescheduled, with more than 1,300 text messages sent to patients. Weather permitting, we hope to resume elective surgery on Monday. Patients will be contacted directly by SMS if plans change.
In the interest of staff and patient safety, Tugun Satellite Health Centre closed at 5pm on Thursday (6 March), and will possibly reopen on the weekend weather permitting.
Varsity Lakes Day Hospital has been closed for the week and Oral Health is providing an emergency only service.
Staff from our health facilities are being redeployed to Robina and Gold Coast University Hospitals where possible.
Visitors are asked not to attend Robina and Gold Coast University Hospitals throughout this weather event unless providing direct care to patients, particularly in the context of advice from local authorities to avoid non-essential travel.
The safety of staff, patients and the community remain Gold Coast Health’s highest priorities during this weather event.
