eNRMC Electronic Prescribing: Grace Period and Implementation Phase Extended

eNRMC Electronic Prescribing: Grace Period and Implementation Phase Extended

17 Oct 2025

This extension responds to concerns from the aged care sector about the workload and clinical risks caused by delayed conformance by some eNRMC providers.

Key points:

  • Non-conformant vendors can continue to supply their products, but residential aged care homes, clinicians, and pharmacists should consider and manage any associated clinical risks.

  • The Department and the Australian Digital Health Agency will continue to monitor impacts, work with vendors, and support the aged care sector.

  • Further extensions may be granted if vendors demonstrate adequate progress towards conformance.

Extension to implementation phase:

  • The original implementation phase, due to end on 1 March 2026, is now extended to 31 December 2026.

  • This allows more time for safe rollout and adoption of electronic prescribing eNRMC systems.

Background:

  • Since 2022, eNRMC providers have been under a Transitional Arrangement, while system enhancements were made to meet national electronic prescribing standards.

  • Vendors were originally required to achieve conformance by 1 October 2025, extended to 21 October 2025, and now to 1 December 2025.

  • The Department is updating resources and guidance to reflect the revised dates.

This extension ensures clinicians, pharmacists, and aged care providers have adequate time to manage the transition safely while continuing to provide quality care.
